Description: View of the Marienbosch coffee plantation on the Commewijn River. Between two groups of palm trees and a water work (tanning sluice), several wooden plantation buildings lie across a canal. On a stone floor between the buildings, enslaved people of African origin spread coffee beans so they could dry in the sun. In addition to coffee, cotton and cocoa were also grown on Marienbosch. On the canal, a korjaal, a small cargo boat, sails. On the path along the canal walks an enslaved woman with child and a man with hat and walking stick. According to the inscription in the lower right corner, the painting was made from a drawing by A.L. Brockmann.
